2019 Dodge Challenger vs. 2019 Chevrolet Camaro | Decatur, IN
In the muscle car segment, two of the most popular models are the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro. Either of these models can give you a thrilling drive and head-turning looks, but we think the Challenger is by far the more versatile choice.
When buying a muscle car, one of the most important elements is its engine. The standard engine on the Challenger is a 3.6-liter V6 rated at 305 horsepower. From there, you can choose a 5.7-liter V8 with 375 horsepower, a larger 6.4-liter V8 with 485 horsepower, a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 717 horsepower, or the Hellcat Redeye model with the 6.2-liter V8 but with 797 horsepower.
The Camaro has some great engine choices, but you won’t find the same power levels as the Challenger. The standard Camaro engine is a turbocharged four-cylinder with 275 horsepower. Its available 3.6-liter V6 offers 335 horsepower, while the 6.2-liter V8 comes with 455 horsepower. At the top of the range is a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 650 horsepower.
While passenger space is probably not a high priority in a muscle car, there are probably times when you will want to bring some people along for a ride. The Challenger offers seating for up to five, while the Camaro can only fit four. In addition, backseat passengers will be much more comfortable in the Challenger than the Camaro with 3.2 inches of additional legroom and 3.5 inches more shoulder room.
Another feature that might not be your focus is cargo space. However, you will surely miss it when you don’t have it. The Challenger has a much larger trunk than the Camaro. It boasts 16.2 cubic feet of space while the Camaro has a paltry 9.1 cubic feet. The Challenger’s split-folding rear seats give you even more versatility.
